How the coronavirus will force you to up your game

If you don’t up your game you will be left behind

Now is the time to up every area of your game and do more as opposed to downing tools and doing less

If you don’t up your game you will be left behind

It is still the word that is on everyone’s lips

Coronavirus

It is still wrecking havoc in nearly every area of people’s lives including putting a halt on your football career

When will games re start?
Will the amount of games next season be reduced?

You may even be in a situation where you are unsure of where you will be playing next season

Regardless of the uncertainty that has covered football like a blanket in these past few months

Now is the time to up every area of your game and do more as opposed to downing tools and doing less

That is assuming you want to go to the top?

Let me explain why I think this

BUDGETS WILL BE CUT

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to work out that for the vast majority of clubs next season (and for a few more after that) their budgets will be cut

When budgets are cut some of the most common things that are likely to happen is the squad size and amount spent on wages are reduced

With smaller squad sizes over the coming years it then makes it harder to get a new deal or get into a new club

As the opportunity is reducing, your quality as a person and a player needs to be increasing

So if there were 32 places available in a squad previously and that is then cut to 18 obviously your chances are then reduced as there are less places up for grabs

If you are hell bent on reaching the top and getting the rewards that come with that you need to up your game

Yes if you are a youth player that is used to top that squad of 18 up to 25 that is great initially

But ultimately you want to be good enough to be getting selected to play for the squad you train with

Now it is not enough to be OK tactically and technically

or to only do the training that your club gives you

You need to be doing more and increasing the quality of what you do

Tactically, technically and physically you need to be the best you can be as opportunities are now less

Not to mention being in the best mental shape possible

Mastering your confidence, being able to deal with negative opinions and removing the shackles from your performance will be key

Yes you can moan and say that the way the football industry is going to look in the future is unfair

But it is what it is

We need to deal with it

Now is not the time to moan or feel sorry for yourself

Now is the time to up your game and turn the screw

In years to come you will be sitting telling someone that the coronavirus situation kicked you on or ultimately held you back

The choice is yours

Choose wisely

ROUND UP

Look at your actions in this last 10 weeks.

Look at your nutrition, training and inner game.

Score each of those areas out of 10 and total up your score.

Does that total score look like the score of someone who is going to the top?

If not, how do you improve on it?
